The Actors

Over the past forty years or so, the Baltic Sea's ecological problems have been increasingly taken on board by governments, associations, public and private foundations as well as all kinds of events. We congratulate and encourage them, because the results are there. However, much remains to be done, especially in today's environment of heightened geopolitical tensions.


Here is a non-exhaustive list of these actors. We are counting on you to help us improve it.

The Baltic Sea Project within the UNESCO Associated Schools Network aims to bring together teachers and students from Baltic Sea countries to work towards a common goal: raising environmental awareness among future generations, supporting environmentally friendly attitudes the environment and teaching young people the skills to notice and explore changes in their environment.​

    John Nurminen Foundation
    The Foundation has two key areas of activity: cultural activities focusing on maritime history and environmental work through its Clean Baltic Sea projects. The aim of the Foundation's Clean Baltic Sea projects is to reduce eutrophication of the Baltic Sea and increase environmental awareness of its condition.​
